I havn't ever seen Manhattan and my knowledge is based mostly on Sex and the City and Empire State of Mind. That's not much and my common sense is telling me it's not accurate either. Yet still the first second when I saw Tokyo I thought this must be the Asian version of the Big Apple. Plus all the craziness that - I'm sure - can not be found anywhere else in the world but here. Elegance and vulgarity, luxury and sleaziness go side by side in this city. And there is kinkiness. Sex is not as visible as in Europe and Tokyo is not full of couples making out in the streets. There are no huge adult shops on every street and little Condomania kiosks, places selling thousands of types of rubbers, seem to be the boldest indication of Japanese people actually having sex. But on the indirect level, sex is everywhere and man, it's kinky! From maido bars, where cute girls dressed like house maids serve drinks and call customers their masters, to shops where one can buy an outfit of a sexy nurse or nun. Man in the morning tube reading pornographic comics with not only girls and boys but also dogs and cats included. And love hotels where you can rent a room per hour and spend your romantic 60 minutes aboard a pirates ship or inside of a bed shaped as a gigantic pearl with your girlfriend wearing mermaids tail. Nothing is too weird for Tokyo. But beware, you never know if a cute and daring girl you just met is actually a girl. And if you are disappointed with all your dates, you can always end up marrying a virtual woman existing for you and only you in the cyberspace.
